Hi there!
So for this months blog I decided to answer some questions from other creatives in the Wedding Industry. Allowing you to find out more about me, how I came about in business and what it's like being a designer. So here goes...
What's your favourite part of producing beautiful wedding invitations?
asked by @redamancyweddingplanning
Well I would have to say I have two things – seeing my ideas come to life and secondly receiving lovely feedback from my clients. I still always get super excited receiving a final print, especially when it’s a specialised print process like foil or embossing.
Have you got any favourite colour trends right now? asked by @photokathryn
Right now I'm loving the copper trend – foil print on midnight blue or charcoal card stock, it’s just the perfect combo!
Have you ever had a commission where you've really personally and artistically disagreed with what the client wants? asked by @tabbyatmodefor
Good question! I think everyone who works in the design industry comes across this… in cases like this I normally do what the client has asked for but I also offer another design option. I can only advise, for me the client needs to love the final outcome and that’s the main thing.
Which colour palettes do you particularly love working with? Which ones do you dislike intensely?! asked by @quaintlykate
I love working with vibrant colours but it totally depends on the project. For my wedding collection I wanted to stay classy and elegant which is why I chose crisp white card and selected my foil colours carefully. There isn’t really a colour palette I dislike intensely. As a designer I know what colours work best with certain design styles. I have on the rare occasion had clients that provide me with a specific colour palette in which I have disliked but linking back to @tabbyatmodefor’s question. If the client is happy then that’s the main thing.
What is your very favourite piece that you have created? asked by @mixntwistbartending
Without doubt my sister’s wedding invitations. She is also very creative and was very open to different ideas. There were loads of cute hidden details within their invites, including dates and details that meant something special to them. Not every guest would have known the true meanings, except my sister and her husband. Which I think is very sweet and personal!
When did you set up your business? asked by @Stevie_jay_photography
I started my business journey in March 2016. I had worked in design agencies for the past 5 years but I had always wanted to get into the wedding industry. I heard about a Princes Trust course in Durham in February and the rest was history. I officially launched at the end of October 2016 and it’s been an interesting journey so far! I have learned lots along the way and met some great inspiring creatives in the industry.
What was it (following @Stevie_jay_photography) that made you take the leap and follow your dreams into a business? asked by @savonclaire
Creating my sister’s wedding stationery had lots to do with it. I loved designing the stationery and being part of such a special day. Shortly after, someone saw the invitations and asked me to create part of their wedding stationery. It was then that I started looking into being a wedding stationer; I thought if I don’t go for it now, I never would.
Where do you get your inspiration? asked by @hummingbirdoccasions
My current wedding collection is inspired by flowers. I love the outdoors and its natural beauty, which is why I chose to design a floral collection. I can get inspiration from anywhere though but I do think it’s important to explore and learn new things everyday to be more creative in life. I am also a massive fan of Ceci New York stationery, their designs are just amazing; it would be my dream to work on a project like theirs one day! Be sure to check them out!
